18 hrs prior party...."Mom, I think that I want a racing car cake for my birthday instead"

Hello everyone. Welcome to my first ever blog! Finally, I became brave enough to post my own blog. I want to dedicate this blog spot to my husband Bruce and children. Additionally, I would like to dedicate this space to my students and supporters. Some people know me by Mrs. Sarah Horvet, but others know me by the "cake lady". I have been married to Bruce, a Chiropractor in Woodland Hills, CA for only 13 years. We have always been best friends. We have three boys together: Alex, Jimmy and Jacob. Alex is a cyclist. Jimmy and Jacob play baseball at our local little league. If it makes you feel better........I was the worst ever cake decorator! Ask Ron, my brother-in-law about that "disgusting green cake for Halloween 1999!" But, God is merciful, and gave me the power to study and learn about cake decorating.

To begin , I would like to start with my experience of a rush order from my son Jimmy....
Jimmy turned 10 years old two weeks ago. For the ocassion, I had been asking him for the past 4 weeks what theme his party was going to be this year. Well, we went through so many different themes, until he settled for three. One was Bionicle (again!), Lego (again!), and Halo 3 (what!).

Finally we settled for a Halo 3 party. However, a few hours before the party, Jimmy decided that he wanted a race car. BUT...it had to be a Nascar race car.....Oh Lord!

Herein, I am posting a picture of the cake. It is not finished yet, and I do not have pictures of the final cake, but I am sure that Theresa will email as soon as she has time. Honestly, I do not think that it is my best work, but I made it with a lot of love for my son. I rushed to have it ready for the party. I baked several different sized cakes. Two large oval cakes for the base, one Wilton Buggy cake for the car, and an extra one to use for Nascar design. Bruce cut out the buggy car cake with a serrated knife to give it the low Chevy look. Extra cake had to be thinly sliced to mold for the extended chasis. After the design was complete, I covered the cake with Wilton ready to use icing and refrigerated. Then, I covered te blue fondant part first. The red fondant went on top with the flames cut out to show the blue around them. Details were added with icing. Alex was in charge of adding further details. In order for the car not to roll out the base, I took the air out of the tires...Ha, Ha, ha....joke.... As soon as I get the other pictures, I will post them here. Be patient!

The party was a success! Jimmy was very happy and blessed that his family was at home to sing Happy Birthday!

Feel free to send your pictures if you want them posted here! We would love to have them posted for the world to see them.

Piece of cake!
